Welcome to mastering Physics Unit 1 and 2 and Physics Unit 3 and 4 with Damien Patterson

Hello and welcome! I’m Damien Patterson, and I’m not just a Physics teacher; I’m your motivator in mastering the fascinating world of Physics explored throughout Year 10, Year 11 and Year 12 in Western Australia. As a Physics teacher at a top-ranked public school in Perth since 2011, I have dedicated my career to helping students unravel the complexities of this subject.

I’ve always enjoyed applying the laws of Physics to grand projects – I scared the neighbours when my highscool buddy and I made a 3-meter tall trebuchet that launched oranges down the street. I also released a video game that incorporated a lot of projectile motion and collisions (It’s called Nation Breakers: Steam Arena – a finacial flop, but still super proud I did it).

My Teaching Philosophy

Teaching is not just a profession for me; it’s a passion. I believe in creating a learning environment that nurtures curiosity, builds confidence, and fosters a love for physics. My friendly and encouraging demeanor sets the stage for an atmosphere where students feel comfortable asking questions and exploring the wonders of the physical world.

I am a firm believer in studying smarter, not harder. With a wealth of experience, I guide my students to be more effective when studying in their own study time, using practical revision techniques that have proven to be effective.

Most tuition companies have a huge focus on improving marks, grades and scores. I get it, and you are probably reading this hoping for exactly that. The way I see it, better marks is a natural consequence of my tuition service – not the prime focus. I am foremost a motivator and confidence builder. Students tend to do better in subject they enjoy. I build confidence and enjoyment for Physics in my students so they work a little harder on the subject all the time, not just for the 1 hour a week during tuition.

Qualifications and Experience

With a solid foundation as a Physics teacher at a top WA public school since 2011, I’ve had the privilege of teaching and inspiring over 500 Physics students. My commitment to excellence extends beyond the classroom, as I’ve spent almost as long providing personalised tutoring to students seeking extra support.

I have written and reviewed a half dozen Physics exam papers across Year 11 and 12 and have valuable insights into the intricacies of exam preparation and the strategies for solving exam level questions. Additionally, I’ve co-authored Trial WACE Examination Papers for Physics Units 3 and 4 for Lucas Publications, contributing to the development of quality educational resources in Physics.

As the proprietor and content creator for Step Up In Education, I’ve helped 1000s of students by producing online videos and practice problems covering the breadth of ATAR Physics (and other subjects too). You can go check out Step Up In Education for lots of great resources for ATAR Science and Math subjects – Wisdomatic is my side project and how I offer individualised tuition.

I am registered with TRBWA, and I hold a valid Working with Children Check.
